Both treatments resurface and refresh the skin, but they do it very differently. A HydraFacial hydrates and decongests with zero downtime, while a chemical peel works deeper to correct pigmentation, acne and texture. Here's how they compare at our North Miami and Palm Beach Gardens clinics — and how we help you choose.
| Feature | HydraFacial | Chemical Peel |
|---|---|---|
| How it works | Vortex hydradermabrasion — cleanse, exfoliate, extract & infuse serums | Acid solution dissolves the top layers to resurface |
| Downtime | None — instant glow | Light: none–1 day · Medium: 3–7 days peeling |
| Best for | Hydration, congestion, dullness, maintenance glow | Pigmentation, acne, sun damage, deeper texture |
| Sensation | Painless, cooling | Tingling/warmth; stronger with deeper peels |
| Skin types | All, incl. sensitive, rosacea & pregnant | Most; deeper peels need careful screening on darker tones |
| Results show | Immediately, same day | After peeling resolves (3–10 days) |
| Frequency | Monthly | Every 4–6 weeks in a series |
| Aurelia price | From consultation | Aurelia Glow Peel $185 |
Prices shown are Aurelia Med Spa pricing and may change; confirmed at consultation. Peel depth and downtime are tailored to your skin.
So which should you choose?
Choose a HydraFacial if…
You want an instant, no-downtime glow, you have an event coming up, or your main concerns are hydration, dullness and mild congestion. Great for sensitive skin and monthly maintenance.
Choose a chemical peel if…
You're targeting pigmentation, melasma, acne, sun damage or rougher texture and you can accept a few days of peeling for a deeper correction.
Honestly, the best results often come from using both over time — a peel to correct, then monthly HydraFacials to maintain. For a deeper, Florida-tuned glow, our Aurelia Hydrofacial Renewal and full peel & ritual menu give you both paths.
A HydraFacial is the safe, instant, no-downtime glow; a chemical peel is the deeper corrective treatment for pigment, acne and texture. Neither is 'better' — the right choice depends on your skin and your calendar. For an unbiased medical overview of how chemical peels work and what to expect, the American Academy of Dermatology is an excellent resource. The fastest way to know which is right for you is a complimentary consultation and skin analysis.
Frequently asked questions.
Which is better, a HydraFacial or a chemical peel?+
Neither is universally 'better' — they solve different problems. A HydraFacial is the no-downtime choice for hydration, congestion and an instant glow, ideal before an event. A chemical peel works deeper to treat pigmentation, acne and sun damage, but can involve a few days of peeling. Many patients alternate the two. We'll recommend the right one at a complimentary consultation.
Is a HydraFacial or chemical peel better for acne?+
For active or congested acne and post-acne marks, a targeted chemical peel (salicylic or a blended medical peel) usually outperforms a standard HydraFacial because it works deeper into the pore lining. That said, a HydraFacial with a salicylic booster is a great gentle option for mild congestion and maintenance. We tailor the choice to your skin.
Which has more downtime?+
The HydraFacial has essentially none — you can return to your day immediately with a glow. Chemical peels vary: a light 'lunchtime' peel has little to no downtime, while medium-depth peels can cause 3–7 days of flaking and require strict sun protection afterward.
How much does each cost in Florida?+
At Aurelia, our Aurelia Glow Peel is $185, and HydraFacial and our Florida-tuned Hydrofacial Renewal are quoted at your consultation based on boosters. Cherry and Care Credit financing are available for treatment packages.
Can I combine a HydraFacial and a chemical peel?+
Yes — many patients do, just not on the same day. A common rhythm is a deeper peel to correct a concern, followed by monthly HydraFacials to maintain the result. Your provider will sequence them safely based on your skin's tolerance.
Which is safer for sensitive or rosacea-prone skin?+
The HydraFacial is generally the gentler, safer choice for sensitive, rosacea-prone or reactive skin, and it's even suitable during pregnancy. Chemical peels can still be used on sensitive skin, but we start light and patch-test where appropriate.
